The institution of the Student Cultural Centre of Novi Sad (SKCNS) was founded by the government of the Autonomous Region of Vojvodina as part of the educational infrastructure of the region, and is financed by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. Its director is appointed on a four-year mandate by the Executive Council of the Autonomous Region of Vojvodina, which also appoints the Steering Committee and Supervisory Board of the institution.

SKCNS is a significant institution in the cultural life of young people in Novi Sad. Its work encompasses literary, theatrical, musical and visual arts. SKCNS insists on genuine artistic value, in so doing playing an educational role for young people. It especially works to promote young talent.

In the area of literary creativity, SKCNS's activity is focused on both renowned and young, up-and-coming writers. We organize periodic thematic literary discussions, and promote books and literary magazines in which young writers can publish their first works.

In the field of visual arts, we organize exhibitions by students of the Academy of Arts, as well as other artistic projects in cooperation with other artistic organizations.

Regarding music, we promote new musical talent through the organization of performances by students from the Academy of Arts. Aside from classical music concerts, SKCNS regularly organizes rock and punk concerts featuring both well-known and unsigned bands.

In the theatrical domain, SKCNS organizes performances by touring theatre groups, both professional and amateur.

As well as the regular cultural programme every month, including concerts, exhibitions, speeches, debates, and publishing, SKCNS organizes:

CONCERTS / ROCK CONCERTS: between 4 and 8 a month, around 60 per year.
CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERTS: once or twice a month, around 20 annually
EXHIBITIONS: one or two per month, around 20 per year
SPEECHES, DEBATES, ROUND TABLES: around 40 over the course of the year

PUBLISHING: between 2-5 comic strip compilations (depending on finances) and between 6-8 books every year
MUSIC PRODUCTION: 12 audio/music releases per year

SKC also organizes the following major annual events:

RITAM EVROPE! (The Rhythm of Europe) - a celebration of Europe Day/ Day of victory over fascism

FILMSKI FRONT (Film Front) - the first festival in Vojvodina for small and independent film producers

NS STRIP VIKEND (Novi Sad Comic Weekend) - the first comic strip festival in Vojvodina

TO BE PUNK - the first ever punk festival in Serbia!
