TO BE PUNK FESTIVAL 2010.
SKCNS was finally able to organise the festival on "home ground". The Fabrika proved to be the ideal space for this kind of event, and we hope that we have, at the third attempt, after the Podijum and MFAM, finally become the true "hosts" (in the original sense of the word) of To Be Punk Festival. The biggest buzz was certainly around the arrival of the legendary Oi! band, Cockney Rejects, who directly influenced the musical tastes of many people in Novi Sad, as well as numerous young local bands. Apart from the famous East London crew, the two-day festival also featured Spanish ska band Oferta Especial, then The Works from Holland, and the fantastic American band The Cute Lepers. On the first night, the crowd could hardly wait for the local legends the Mitesers, who as a foursome played one of their best concerts ever. Aside from them, the local bands who played were Vrisak Generacije, Ringišpil and The Bayonets. Debeli Precjednik from Osijek were the most convincing band from the wider region, and other than them, the crowd was able to see Fiskalni Racun, Gavrilo Princip, Diskurz, Totalna Rasprodaja and DST. The second in the To Be Punk festival series was held on the first weekend of June 2009 in the Museum of Forgotten Arts (MFAM) in the Chinese Quarter. SKCNS organized the participation of 12 bands, 7 from Serbia and 5 from abroad across two festival days. The festival will be remembered for the outright hysteria that followed the appearance of actor Rob Stewart (Nick Slaughter), who performed as a special guest on stage for the 20th birthday celebration concert for the band Atheist Rap on the second night of the festival. Apart from him, the Atheists' support included: KUD Idijoti, Superhiks, Novembar, Gužva u 16ercu and Lude Krawe. The first day headliners were Sham 69 from England, who shared the stage with locals Blitzkrieg, Generacija Bez Buducnosti, Tetrapank, as well as Prilicno Prazni from Belgrade and Alergija from Zadar. After launching the Ritam Evrope! festival, and the release of numerous punk albums by bands from Novi Sad as well as a book on punk in Novi Sad, SKCNS organized a two-day festival called To Be Punk on the last weekend of May 2008. In the summer cinema in the Katolicka Porta, 12 bands from Serbia and abroad performed in front of large crowds (about 1500). The headliners were Peter and the Test Tube Babies, who after a spectacular performance at the first Ritam Evrope! wowed the Novi Sad crowd again. Another British band, Goldblade from Manchester, played for the first time in Serbia, and went home impressed. As well as them, the following bands performed at the festival: Novembar from Niš, KBO from Kragujevac, SMF and Concrete Worms from Belgrade, and local bands Dva Minuta Mržnje, Proleće, Red Union, Provokacija, Bomber and Frontline. |
